This piece was photographed for "Pakowhai" Exhibition, over 100 people from Opotiki New Zealand participated and held a Kowhai flower... it was a powerful show that exemplified to the world the beauty that exists in a small town, the entire collection sold out on the evening - and now 10 of the pieces are available.
These photo's were created to emphasize a strong sense of prosperity and community, the name "Pakowhai" derived from the name of Opotiki prior to colonization, where in old Maori legends it was said that Opotiki was abundantly full and flourishing with the Kowhai Flower at a time where wealth and prosperity shined brightly on the local Maori iwi Whakatohea. The flower itself is what each person is holding. it is said the flower holds many healing powers and often the New Zealand native Tui bird is seen eating it's nectar and getting "drunk".
